From the Bowery to Broadhollow
World Lighting was born in the heart of New York City’s legendary Bowery lighting district in Manhattan — once the most concentrated block of lighting showrooms in the country, where contractors, designers, and homeowners came from across the tri-state area to find fixtures they couldn’t find anywhere else. Ping Wang opened there in 1988, learning the trade from the ground up in one of the most competitive retail environments in the world.
As the city changed and the Bowery district evolved, Ping saw an opportunity on Long Island. The suburbs were growing, homes were getting bigger, and nobody was serving the Nassau and Suffolk market the way it deserved. In 2020 he opened World Crystal Lighting on Route 110 in Farmingdale — right in the geographic center of Long Island, accessible to everyone from Queens to the Hamptons.
Today the Farmingdale showroom is family run, built on the same principles that made the Manhattan location a success: more selection than anyone else, better prices than you’ll find online, and the kind of personal service that makes customers drive past three other lighting stores to get to us. We’ve lit thousands of Long Island and New York City homes — and we’re just getting started.
